The Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command has strengthened partnership with the British American Tobacco Nigeria (BATN) to boost economic growth and enhance industrial development.
In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs 1, Abdulmalik Abiodun Akintola, this development followed a familiarization visit by a delegation led by the Customs Area Controller in charge of Oyo/Osun Area Command, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu on Wednesday, 15 October 2025.
During the visit, Comptroller Aliyu commended BATN for its long-standing partnership with the Nigeria Customs Service, particularly in trade facilitation and compliance with extant customs laws and regulations.
He acknowledged the company for its consistent adherence to trade standards and remarkable contribution to the tobacco manufacturing sector in Nigeria and beyond.

The Customs Area Controller highlighted the socio-economic impact of BATN’s operations, emphasising its significant contributions to national revenue through customs duties and taxes, as well as its role in creating employment opportunities for Nigerian youths.
He also noted that the company’s industrial activities have continued to promote economic growth and enhance industrial development within Oyo State and across the nation.
Speaking further, Comptroller Aliyu recognised BATN’s commitment to best practices, maintenance of high production standards, and strict regulatory compliance.

He added that through continuous cooperation between BATN and the Nigeria Customs Service, both institutions can jointly achieve the shared goals of economic growth, industrial advancement, and national prosperity.
In his remarks, The Director of Operations, BATN, Mr. Hasnain Ishtiaq, warmly welcome the Area Controller and his delegation, expressing appreciation for them.
He acknowledged the vital role played by the Nigeria Customs Service in facilitating legitimate trade and supporting local industries, assuring the Customs Area Controller on the BATN’s continued commitment to regulatory compliance and collaboration with the Service.

Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the cordial relationship between the Nigeria Customs Service and BATN, assuring the company of continuous support in facilitating legitimate trade within the bounds of the law.
