The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, announced a fresh seizure of smuggled goods worth Three hundred and Fifty two million, Nine hundred and Fifty two thousand, Two hundred Naira (N352,952,200) only.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Command’s Headquarters in Ibadan Apapa Lagos, Customs Area Controller (CAC) Comptroller Patrick Ntadi made this known, stressing that the illegal goods are detrimental to economic stability and social well-being of the nation.
He noted that the operations dealt a significant blow to criminal networks involved in illicit trade and smuggling activities and also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s borders and ensuring that lawful trade and commerce thrive within the economy.
Details of the seizures are: 2,017 bags of rice; 481 loaves of Cannabis Sativa; 72 bundles of foreign textile; 7 bags of Sugar; 4 locally constructed fibre boats; 5 locally constructed wooden boats having a total value of three hundred and Fifty two million, Nine hundred and fifty two thousand, two hundred Naira (N352,952,200) only.
Comptroller Ntadi attributed the successful operations to the motivation accorded by the Controller General of Customs (CGC) Adeniyi Adeniyi, MFR, enhanced intelligence gathering and improved collaboration with other security agencies including the Nigerian Navy, NDLEA, Marine Police and the Immigration Service. “We also owe our success to the deployment of more patrol vessels along the coastlines and inland waterways,” he said.
He further urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities on the waterways.
