The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Seme Area Command, Comptroller Ben Oramalugo, has emphasised the importance of inter-agency collaboration in securing Nigeria’s borders and addressing national security challenges.

He made this known on Thursday, 19 June 2025, while receiving students from the Nigerian Army Intelligence School on a study visit to the Command.

Dr. Oramalugo stressed that no single agency can operate in isolation, underscoring the need for collective efforts to ensure a secure and prosperous Nigeria.

“Your visit today underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration in securing Nigeria’s borders and promoting economic prosperity,” he said.

Highlighting environmental threats in the Seme axis, Comptroller Oramalugo raised concern over increasing ocean encroachment, which he noted is threatening critical infrastructure.

“The Seme coastline is experiencing severe ocean encroachment, endangering infrastructure at the Joint Border Post and nearby Customs facilities. This environmental challenge requires urgent government intervention to prevent further damage,” he warned.

On anti-smuggling operations, the Area Controller stated that the command is constantly combating organised smuggling syndicates and cross-border criminal activities.“There are other lawful ways to earn a living besides smuggling. We are engaging stakeholders to encourage alternatives and reduce dependence on illicit trade”.

The CAC reaffirmed the command’s dedication to securing Nigeria’s borders, facilitating trade, and enhancing revenue generation.

In his remarks, the team lead and Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Army Intelligence School, Colonel Taofeek Yakubu, commended the Comptroller for the warm reception and reiterated the school’s commitment to deepening inter-agency collaboration for national development.
