As part of the commitment to open up more communities for development and positioning the state for greater global impact, Kwara State Government said it awarded twenty four road projects in the first quarter of 2025.

The Honorable Commissioner for Works, Engineer Abdulquawiy Olododo, made this known recently, while presenting the Ministry’s scorecard at the Q1 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing, held at the Conference Room of the Finance Ministry, Ilorin.

Engineer Olododo said this feat was achieved through strategic infrastructural investments.

The Commissioner reported that as of Q4 2024, 46 projects were underway, with 33 completed and 11 still in progress heading into the new quarter. Notably, 24 new road projects were awarded in 2025, with six already completed.

Highlighting the Agbamu-Ila-Orangun road construction, he emphasized its importance as a key inter-state route that will boost economic activity and enhance connectivity between Kwara and Osun States.

Engineer Olododo said as part of the administration’s development agenda, more border communities will soon be connected.

According to him, stalled road projects, previously hindered by cost variations, are set to resume following recent resolution of the issues.

He further assured residents that work will continue on the newly awarded GRA roads in Ilorin and other key routes across the state, driving progress and development.

His words, “The ongoing 209.77km RAAMP rural roads have earned the state two national awards—Best in Counterpart Funding and Best in Overall Disbursement—underscoring government’s efficiency and accountability.

“The construction of a 70-meter flagpole, the tallest in West Africa, on the iconic Wahab Folawiyo Unity Road has been completed. This initiative is symbolic of Kwara State rising promise.

“You can see the ongoing Federal road interventions in Kwara State, including the 49km Eyenkorin–Afon–Ojoku–Offa–Odo-Otin Road, 83km Lafiagi–Shonga–Bacita Road, 130km Bode Saadu–Kaiama–Kosubosu Road, and the Okuta–Gwanara–Bukuro Road, among others in the pipeline”.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Commissioner told journalists that Kwara State Fire Service successfully saved properties worth N728,478,052,012, during the period under review.

This shows how the state government has intensified efforts on emergency response.

He equally lauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s visionary leadership saying, “These achievements is no doubt a reflection of the Governor’s unwavering commitments to equitable development, infrastructural transformation and a balanced Rural-Urban development across the State.”

He further assured Kwarans of the administration’s steadfast dedication to building a stronger and more connected State.

“The Mallam AbdulRazaq-led administration remain focused on transforming Kwara, through strategic investment in vital infrastructure, to ensure balanced rural-urban development and long-term prosperity for all citizens,” he added.
