In a bid to enhance public safety and restore sanity to transportation system, the Kwara State Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Lafia Kora Sabi, led a team of officials from the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority, KWARTMA and Vehicle Inspection Office, VIO on an inspection tour of illegal motor parks across Ilorin metropolis.
The exercise, which covered major areas including Challenge, Offa Garage, and Geri Alimi, forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to rid the capital city of unauthorized motor parks and enforce transport regulations more effectively.
During the inspection, Alhaji Kora Sabi expressed concern over the indiscriminate activities of illegal park operators, noting that such practices not only disrupt traffic flow but also pose significant security risks to lives and property.
He advised commuters to patronize only government-approved motor parks where passenger safety, vehicle documentation, and operational standards are strictly monitored and enforced.
The Commissioner revealed that the Ministry is clamoring to establish an accurate database of all recognized garages across the state.
According to him, the state government has resolved to take drastic action by relocating all roadside parks into approved garages, ensuring better regulation and improved public safety.
Alhaji Kora Sabi noted that the Ministry will set up a committee to investigate the sudden stoppage of operations by Kwara Express, the state-owned transport company.
The Commissioner added that the committee will uncover the root causes and recommend appropriate steps for the government to take in reviving or restructuring the service.
