ZAINAB JUNAID

The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has again been recognized for his exceptional contributions to the public service, receiving the “Public Service Person of the Year 2024” award at the 17th edition of the Leadership Conference and Awards in Abuja.

According to Leadership Group, the award was given to the CGC for his transformative leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), ushering in a new era of transparency, operational efficiency, and improved revenue generation that has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s economic stability.

While receiving the award, CGC Adeniyi, accompanied by his wife, Kikelomo Adeniyi, and some senior officers, expressed appreciation for the award.

He pledged to continue enhancing trade facilitation, improving revenue generation, and also intensify efforts in enforcement activities.

He also acknowledged the contributions of all NCS personnel, stating that recognizing their efforts will continue to motivate more reforms and innovation within the service.

“This award is not just about me; it reflects the collective commitment to transparency, efficiency, and national development,” he said.

Adeniyi reiterated his commitment to modernization, trade facilitation, and revenue enhancement, emphasizing leadership with integrity and accountability.

He also highlighted the importance of border management for national security.

The CGC was recognised alongside Aliko Dangote, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, state governors, including Umo Eno (Akwa-Ibom), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bala Mohamed (Bauchi), and Abba Yusuf (Kano State), senators, and private sector representatives.
