The Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Area Command, Comptroller Mohammed Salisu Shuaibu has pledged to end clashes between smugglers and officers in Ogun State, a commitment that aligns with his anti-smuggling expertise.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs, CHADO ZAKARI on Monday, the Area Controller made the pledge during a courtesy visit to traditional rulers and sister agencies in Ogun State.
Comptroller Shuaibu emphasized the importance of cooperation and synergy through intelligence sharing and anti-smuggling efforts in combatting illicit act and also acknowledged the vital role traditional leaders play in preserving peace, order, and security within their communities.
He highlighted the importance of leveraging traditional institutions’ influence and insights to enhance border security and combat smuggling activities effectively.
The visit included meetings with esteemed traditional leaders, such as His Royal Majesty Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo CFR, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Olu of Owode Oba Rev. MS Akindele JP and Olu of Ilaro, the Paramount Ruler of Yewa land, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, and sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and Department of State Security Services (DSS).
Comptroller Shuaibu also recognised the strategic importance of Ogun State’s borders with the Republic of Benin and pledged to continue using innovative strategies to safeguard Nigeria’s borders and promote economic growth.
In response, the stakeholders assured him of their continuous support and collaboration.
Comptroller Shuaibu’s commitment aligns with the vision of Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, aiming to create a united front against economic crimes and smuggling.
