A significant boost to the fight against economic crimes is underway as the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) strengthen their partnership.
Comptroller Joseph Olugbuyi Adelaja, Customs Area Controller of Oyo/Osun Area Command, led the charge with a recent visit to the EFCC’s zonal office in Ibadan.
During the visit, Comptroller Adelaja stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling financial crimes, money laundering, and illicit trade activities that threaten Nigeria’s economic stability.
He commended the EFCC’s efforts in combating financial crimes and pledged to enhance collaboration through intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and capacity-building initiatives.
He also underscored the core mandates of the Nigeria Customs Service, which include revenue generation, trade facilitation, and the suppression of smuggling and financial crimes.
In response, the EFCC’s Zonal Director, Hajia Hauwa Garba Ringim, reciprocated with a warm welcome, assuring Comptroller Adelaja of the EFCC’s commitment to joint efforts in combating economic crimes.
She emphasized the need for concerted efforts to combat illegal wildlife trafficking, a growing concern with economic and environmental implications.
This renewed partnership is poised to yield tangible results, as both agencies will share intelligence, coordinate operations, and enhance capacity-building initiatives to combat economic and financial crimes more effectively. The collaboration is expected to bolster Nigeria’s economic growth and stability.
According to a press release issued by ASC Abdulmalik Abiodun Akintola, Public Relations Officer, Oyo/Osun Area Command on Sunday, the visit was facilitated by the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration and synergy.
He said the partnership between the NCS and EFCC will continue to yield positive results in the fight against economic crimes.
