.As Area Controller Onyeka reiterates commitment to make TCIP Command Best in Nigeria

The Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN) has commended the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Tin Can Island Port Command, Comptroller FO Onyeka, for introducing innovative measures aimed at enhancing trade facilitation and security.
This commendation was given by MAJAN President, Comrade Jerry Aguigbo, on Tuesday, 11 February 2025, when he led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Command.
Comrade Jerry praised Onyeka’s efforts in streamlining customs processes and promoting a business-friendly environment.
“Since your assumption as the CAC, you have taken measures that agents and freight forwarders have been enthusiastic about. We are here to know more about your activities and to familiarize ourselves,” he said.
In a response, CAC FO Onyeka appreciated the visitation gesture expressing commitment to ensuring seamless operations for compliant traders. He emphasized that the Command’s goal is to create a friendly environment for businesses while maintaining compliance with regulations. “We are here to make things seamless for people to operate. I want Tin Can Island Port to be the most friendly port in the Federation,” Onyeka said.
He also addressed concerns about multiple alerts, saying efforts are being made to eliminate redundant alerts and streamline processes. Onyeka assured that the Command is focused on creating a smooth operational experience for all stakeholders.

Contributing, Deputy Comptroller Admin, DC S.O Aribiyi, and Deputy Comptroller Revenue, DC IS Ofoegbu, provided clarifications on AEO certificate issuance to stakeholders during the visit. Aribiyi explained that AEO is an incentive to encourage compliant traders, and it’s a tool used by the World Customs Organization (WCO).
Other officers who welcomed MAJAN President and his delegation included, Assistant Comptroller Enforcement, UB Agomuo; Secretary to the Customs Area Controller, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Oben Ihekuama; the Command’s spokesman, Superintendent of Customs, O.E. lvara, his assistant, ASC, MB.Zubeiru, among others.
