The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated a significant revenue increase, recording N116,412,735,766.23 in January 2025.
This represents a 24.06% rise from the figure N88,430,126,122.76 collected in January 2024.
Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka disclosed this, expressing optimism that the Command will surpass its 2025 annual target of N1,524,699,999,478.52, citing ongoing reforms to create a trade-friendly environment.
While sensitizing stakeholders on the implementation of the 4% Free on Board (FOB) levy and the new Unified Customs Management System, B’Odogwu at a two-day interactive sessions held on Thursday, 6 February and Friday, 7 February 2025 respectively, the Command Boss re-emphasized that the new levy is in accordance with Section 18 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
He said it aims to boost operational efficiency and align with international best practices.
To him, the B’Odogwu Clearance System, set to launch soon, will modernize customs clearance, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance compliance.
“Through constant collaboration and feedback, we aim to address concerns, foster a better understanding of the processes, and ultimately ensure smooth implementation of these policies.
“We are committed to creating a more trade-friendly environment for all port activities to thrive.
“The era of multiple alerts is over, and we will emphasize honest declarations and thorough examinations,” Onyeka said.
The interactive sessions brought together importers, Customs brokers, shipping agents, and other key players in the trade cycle, from the private and public sectors to discuss the operational implications of these new initiatives.
Onyeka concluded noting that the directives from the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, to initiate these consultations underscores the commitment of the service to transparency, effective communication, and partnership with stakeholders as it navigates through the evolving landscape of international trade.
