The Nigerian Maritime Journalists have rescheduled the award dinner initially planned to honor the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, to Thursday, 13 February 2025.
The prestigious event will take place at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos State, at 6 pm.
The award, tagged “Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024,” recognises the Comptroller General’s outstanding achievements since assuming office as the Customs Helmsman in 2023. His leadership has resulted in significant revenue growth, improved trade facilitation, and enhanced national security, among other notable accomplishments.
According to a statement signed by the Secretary of the Award Planning Committee, Comrade Innocent Orok, the Nigerian Maritime Journalists, comprising all associations covering the maritime beat, unanimously agreed to honor Adeniyi for his sterling performance.

Orok highlighted the associations to include the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), League of Maritime Editors (LOME), Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN), Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN), Online Maritime Media Association of Nigeria (OMMAN), Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP), as well as those who do not belong to any association.
The secretary noted that the award ceremony will attract key stakeholders in the maritime industry, including sister agencies, terminal operators, shipping companies, freight forwarders, and Customs brokers.
The event, Orok said aims at recognising CGC Adeniyi’s contributions to the maritime sector and set a benchmark for excellence in public service.
He also acknowledged the CGC’s unrelenting support for the media, particularly the maritime media, saying the CGC’s commitment to transparency and openness has facilitated the work of journalists covering the maritime sector.
“The event will be a celebration of excellence and a testament to the Nigerian Maritime Journalists’ commitment to recognizing outstanding achievements in the maritime industry,” he added.
This award ceremony will undoubtedly be a memorable event, honoring the exceptional leadership and achievements of the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR.
