The Federal Government through the Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Monday, 3 February 2025, approved a substantial N20 billion for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to enhance its operations and improve the welfare of its personnel.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun disclosed this after the 23rd FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, at the State House, Abuja.

Mr. Edun informed that the approved amount will be channeled into the procurement of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles, construction of forward base (Forward operating base is a secured military protection located in a hostile or remote area used to support tactical operations), and provision of life insurance coverage for the Nigeria Customs Service Personnel.

According to him, the package include a N1 billion life insurance policy designed to enhance the welfare and financial security of NCS Officers and their families.

This approval, he explained aligns with the government’s broader agenda to promote clean energy, improve human capital development, and ensure financial sustainability. “The adoption of CNG vehicles also reflects the administration’s commitment to reducing the country’s carbon footprint. This approval is expected to bolster the NCS’s operational capacity, improve the welfare of its personnel, and contribute to a more sustainable future for Nigeria,” he stated.
