The Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Monday joined the Global Customs Community in celebrating International Customs Day.
The celebration, which took place at the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Conference Hall Terminal 1, featured the decoration of newly promoted officers by the Customs Area Controller, Compt. EJ Harrison and management team of the Command.
Compt. Harrison urged the newly promoted Officers to uphold professionalism in their duties, emphasizing the critical role Customs Officers play in facilitating legitimate trade, safeguarding national security, and generating revenue for the government.
He also highlighted the importance of collaboration with partner agencies to secure the country and suppress illegal activities.
Other dignitaries who spoke at the event included the Controller of Immigration Service, MMIA, CIS MS Yau, and the FAAN Regional Manager, Mr. Arewa Adetokumbo.
In his vote of thanks, CSC Adebayo, one of the newly decorated officers, pledged to continue upholding the ethics and standards of the service to achieve the set mandate of securing borders, generating revenue, and facilitating legitimate trade.
The MMIA Command also reported a revenue generation of N71.6 billion, surpassing its target of N56.8 billion.
The success was attributed to the existing collaboration with sister agencies, critical stakeholders, and the dedication of customs officers.
