Since his appointment as a substantive National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in April 2023, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada has continued to deploy unique strategies to protect the Service reputation inline with it’s core mandate.
From proper coordination of all Command PROs to monitoring and maintaining the Service reputation through proactive communication, Abdullahi Maiwada has developed his capacity to dominate the terrain he is entrusted with.
He ensured his initiatives align with the policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, the World Customs Organization (WCO), and also meet the evolving technology.
With the guidance of the CGC, Maiwada ensures all archaic methods of engaging Stakeholders became extinct; sustained mutual collaboration with critical Stakeholders in the industry; managed press releases; and also built, maintained good media relationships.

Truthfully, in most military/paramilitary agencies, promotions typically occur one rank at a time especially for enlisted Officers but in exceptional cases, double rank promotions can be entrusted on outstanding performer like him. Honestly he deserves more even though his new promotion is well deserved.
His role in understanding media landscape; organizing and managing events such as the three- day retreat held for all Public Relations Officers in September; the 2024 Comptroller General of Customs Conference in November; and the unveiling of a blockbuster gripping movie – ‘Beyond the Badge’ by NCS under Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi with MAIWADA as the image maker of the Service is an evidence that the promotion is well deserved.
Maiwada’s ability to develop strategic communication plans, respond effectively to crisis situation, ensuring the Service reputation is portrayed positively in the media makes him not just an exceptional PR leader for the Service but a top notch spokesman who has positively impacted the Service.
