The Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, Dr. Adeola Ekine has been recognized with a prestigious award of “Exemplary Leadership for Positive Repositioning of Women Journalists in Lagos State” by the Photojournalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN).

The award was conferred on her on Friday, 20 December 2024, at the Ladi Lawal Press Center, Iyalla, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, in recognition of her leadership prowess which has brought transformative change to NAWOJ and her unwavering commitment to the advancement of women journalists in Lagos State.

Under her leadership, NAWOJ Lagos has championed the empowerment of female journalists, promotion of gender equality, advocacy for the rights and welfare of women in the media profession and the opening of NAWOJ Lagos Daycare among others.

While speaking at the event, the Chairman of PJAN, Mrs. Alaba Igbaraola, commended Dr. Ekine for her leadership prowess, remarkable contributions to journalism and her dedication to creating opportunities for women journalists to thrive.

She described Ekine as a trailblazer whose impact will continue to resonate in the media industry for years to come.

“Dr. Adeola Ekine epitomizes dedication and commitment as the Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Lagos State Chapter, with an unwavering focus on advancing the rights and interests of women in journalism, she tirelessly champions various initiatives aimed at empowering female journalists across Lagos State.

“Her leadership is characterized by her exceptional work ethics and a steadfast determination to bring about positive change within the association and the broader community.

“The innovative approaches and strategic decision-making, positioning NAWOJ Lagos as a trailblazer in the field contributed to her tremendous success.Her policy thrust of collaboration and inclusivity, empowering members to actively participate in shaping the chapter’s agenda and driving impactful initiatives contributed to this epoch event.

“With her unparalleled dedication and leadership prowess, she has earned widespread recognition as the epitome of excellence. Under her leadership, NAWOJ, Lagos State Chapter has benefited from both local and international trainings and empowerment and collaboration with local and international organizations,” PJAN Chairperson stated.

While expressing appreciation to the organizers of the event, Dr. Ekine emphasized that the award is a testament to the collective efforts of NAWOJ Lagos team and the resilience of women journalists across the state.

She reaffirmed her commitment to championing initiatives that empower women, enhance professionalism, and foster inclusivity in the media landscape.

Ekine commended the Photojournalists Association of Nigeria for their invaluable contributions to the media profession through their visual reportage, which has continued to shape narratives and documentaries.

The epoch ceremony depicted leadership prowess of the Chairperson and also underscored the importance of collaboration among media professionals to foster growth and inclusivity within the industry.

Ekine is a member of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Institute of Private and Public Sector Professional UK (ICPSP), Nigeria Girl Guides Association and Institute of Public Sector Management (IPSM) UK.
