The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun Area Command has announced the tragic demise of Superintendent of Customs (SC) Kabiru Tijani, his beloved wife, and their four children, who passed away at their residence in Ede, Osun State, in an unfortunate fire incident.
This was announced in an official statement signed by the Command’s Spokesman, SC Kayode Wey on 6, November 2024.
According to the statement, “The heartbreaking incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, 2nd December 2024, at approximately 3:00 am when a fire engulfed their residence in Ede, Osun State.
“SC Kabiru Tijani, who served as the Officer in Charge of Operations at the Command, was a dedicated officer and his unwavering commitment to duty, particularly in coordinating and executing successful anti-smuggling operations, greatly contributed to the success of the Command”.
The statement notes further that his wife, an active member of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) Oyo/Osun Chapter, was equally admired for her contributions to the welfare of the Customs community.
The Customs Area Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo, on behalf of the Officers and Men of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, also expressed deep sorrow over this loss and commiserate with the family and friends of the deceased.
He appreciated the prayers and support from members of the public, adding “SC Kabiru Tijani and his family have since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites. May the Almighty grant them Al-Janatul Firdaus and give their family the strength to endure this immense loss”.
The statement further addressed speculative reports from the inferno noting, “In the wake of this incident, Oyo/Osun Area Command wishes to address speculative reports regarding the inferno. We urge the public to disregard such unfounded reports as our priority remains to provide support to the bereaved extended family, the lone child survivor, and to further investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal incident”.
