The Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola has warned members of the public against several unauthorized social media accounts making rounds using his identity.
Dr. Mobereola gave the warning in a press release signed on Monday by Head, Public Relations for the Agency, Osagie Edward, on the agency’s X handle, revealing the extent of the impersonation.
He disclosed that several fraudulent media accounts have been impersonating him on Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media platforms to the extent of phoning people using his identity.
The DG thus implored the public to be cautious of these fake accounts as they are not in any way affiliated with or endorsed by himself or NIMASA.
Dr. Mobereola also disclaimed any liability for losses incurred by any person(s) as a result of reliance on such fraudulent social media accounts.
According to him, any engagement with these fake accounts pose high risk, and is potentially harmful.
“I strongly urged the public not to engage with these unscrupulous elements parading themselves as DG NIMASA, and please report any suspicious social media and/or requests to the administrators of the social media platforms. Should the public require information, the Agency’s official website, nimasa.gov.ng remains the source for authentic information and enquiries”, he advised.
