Amid the looming threat of the nationwide protest slated to commence on Thursday, August 1 2024, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR has instructed Officers and Men of the Service to ensure all Ports remain in operation, open for business through out the scheduled days for the protest.
The CGC gave the instruction on Wednesday, July 31,2024, while addressing officers and Men of the Service at NCS Headquarters in Abuja.
CGC Adeniyi directed them to sustain citizen’s rights while ensuring comprehensive safety and sustaining economic supply chain.
He said importers must be able to access the Ports, make declarations and clear their goods amidst the protest.
His words, “Of Course for us in the Service and other security agencies of the government, all Nigerians irrespective of whether you are a protester or not, must be guaranteed a safety to go about our lawful business as we chose to do, our ports must remain in operations.
“That is importers who bring in their goods must be able to access the the ports, make declarations and clear goods through themselves or their agents. If there are passengers arriving through international airports and borders or those departing, we must be able to handle their inward and outward clearance. This is what the government is saying”.
