As part of effort to alleviate hunger in the society, the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) has suspended taxes and import duties on some food items to make them more affordable to Nigerians.
The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi made this announcement on Tuesday stressing that though global inflation has seriously impacted nations worldwide with Nigeria not exempted, as prices of food items have continued to increase arbitrarily, the Service is committed to implementing measures seamlessly to address problem of hunger in the Country.
Adeniyi said the Service has streamlined export processes to ensure Nigeria foods reach international market.
He stated that tools such as Advance Ruling System, Authorized Economic Operator, Time Release Study have also been introduced to enhance trade, stimulate the economy and create more opportunities.
“Our farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs will now have faster path to global market that will benefit their families and communities.
“We are also intensifying efforts with other agencies to combat the proliferation of arms and dangerous weapons through Land, Sea and Airport,” he added.
He noted that collective efforts and peaceful progress will help strengthen Nigeria borders but distortion to the supply chain will impact foreign investment, distort trade, promote instability, increase scarcity and hinder revenue collection.
He thus urged Nigerians to embrace unity, cooperation and be resilient during the challenging period as this will help build a brighter future.
