…As Command Uncovers 12 Tax Evading Factories

The Customs Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 11 Area Command, Comptroller Olusola Bisi Alade, has attributed the giant strides of the sum of twelve billion, eight hundred and thirty million, four hundred and ninety-three thousand, six hundred and thirty-naira, six kobo (N12,830,493,630.06) revenue recorded in the first half of the year 2024 to continuous diligence, professionalism and commitment of the Command’s officers and men who worked tirelessly to ensure that they met and exceeded revenue targets given to the command.

Comptroller Alade stated this at a press briefing held at the Command’s Headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Friday, July 5, 2024, adding the scorecards is an indicative of the Command’s steadfast commitment to the growth of National economy.

The Commandeer disclosed that the Command under his stewardship successfully generated the sum of twelve billion, eight hundred and thirty million, four hundred and ninety-three thousand, six hundred and thirty-naira, six kobo (N12,830,493,630.06) as revenue for the period under review.

A significant increase of 51% that is, N4,326,454,811.76, when compared to the sum of eight billion, five hundred and five million, thirty-eight thousand, eight hundred and eighteen-naira, thirty kobo (N8,505,038,828.30) generated in the corresponding period of year 2023.

The Command’s activities in the free trade zones, according to the CAC have improved and in area of monthly revenue collections from April to June 2024. 

His words, “In April we raked in three billion, four hundred and eighty-six million, nine hundred and sixty-one thousand, one hundred eighty-six-naira, seventy-one kobo (N 3,486,961,186.71), while in May we made two billion, eight hundred and one million, eight hundred and thirty-three thousand, seven hundred and forty kobo. (N2,801,833,739.40) and in June our revenue collection leaped to three billion, six hundred and sixty-four million, seven hundred and seventy-six thousand, four hundred and ninety-nine-naira, seven kobo (N3,664,776,499.07)“.

The Controller stressed the command will continue to put in place necessary measures to improve on the collections with adequate support from other units of the service. “We shall maintain success through synergy and continued dialogue, by engaging and sensitizing the local and trader communities while discharging our statutory responsibilities of enforcing compliance with government fiscal policies”.

He equally added that the revenue success recorded in the last three (3) months was driven by Good motivation from the Management of the Service which has boosted the morale of officers and kept them in high spirits at all times.

Continuous deployment of intelligence and reconnaissance by our monitoring unit which led to the discovery of some factories which we have now put under excise control.  These factories which are now under different stages of registration include: Sygen pharmaceutical limited; Sprout and Kingsberg Nigeria Limited; Adesouthern Nigeria Limited; Abraham & Sarah Beverages Nigeria Limited; Oyinloye Honey Double Crown; Oluyemi Akintan Nigeria Enterprises; Lorna Nigeria Limited; Makindez Multi-business Ventures; Digo Herbal Remedy Limited; Broadway Food & Beverages Limited; Beezun Flavoured Drinks; Nellyvan Global Limited (Bonded terminal).

    “All the eleven (11) factories and one (1) bonded terminal, were discovered by the command under the months of my assumption of office, as Customs Area Controller, Ogun ll Command,” he said.

    He further commended the dedication of his officers and men, and the cooperation of other units especially Customs Intelligence Unit and Customs Police Unit for their prompt actions. “It has really contributed to the success of the command. Our achievement is in line with the policy drive of the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR) who is operating under the principle of consolidation, collaboration and innovation. His visionary leadership and enabling support have been crucial in heightening our potentialities and has driven these spectacular results,” he concluded.
