….to Clear TinCan -Mile 2 axis next week
In a bid to ease movement and means of doing business within Apapa Corridor, the Nigeria Port Authority, NPA in collaboration with Lagos State Government have commenced a total clean up of all illegal Shanties around Apapa and Ijora environs, which has not only constitute health and safety risk but also serve as hideout for touts and obstruct truck movement.
The Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex Apapa, Mr. Charles Okaga disclosed this on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at the breakfast meeting on ETO Call-UP System organized by Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria(MARAN) in Lagos.
According to him, the duo did some clearance of Shanties on areas obstructing truck movement along the areas of Apapa-Ijora side last week and is set to do more clearing along TinCan -Mile 2 axis next week.
He stated that the advocacy for sustained efforts has encouraged people to comply and conform.
“Our vision is to provide the right environment for businesses to thrive. If you cannot drive freely in and out of the APapa/TinCan Port axis, businesses cannot thrive. The pressure on Apapa-Ijora axis is as a result of the activities of non state actors along mile 2-TinCan axis. There are more than 20 points that trucks and truckers are meant to park with money before they get into the Port. But to avoid all these points, both TinCan and APapa bound trucks all ply Ijora APapa Corridor. So to ease the movement, we’ve decided to remove all Shanties and we are going to do that of TinCan Mile 2 area by next week,” he added.
